Gathering of the Tents

November 7-9, 2008
National Mall
Washington DC

Communities across the US and abroad have been invited to transform refugee tents into unique works of art that express our compassion and desire for peace for the people of Darfur, Sudan. The tents are decorated with a variety of images and scenes conceived and painted on the tents by individuals from all walks of life and backgrounds.

Join us on Nov. 7-9, 2008 at the National Mall in Washington, DC, on a journey of hope and compassion as we display the painted simulated refugee tents to create awareness and support for the people of Darfur, Sudan. It's our hope that these tents will serve as pathways to concrete action. It's our hope that these tents will help lead to the advocacy necessary to stop the genocide in Darfur.

Weekend activities will include national speakers, celebrities, entertainment, children’s activities, seminars and workshops, an Interfaith Worship Service, films, and other presentations.

Banner information

We are asking each community (city/town/organization) to create a colorful banner for the Procession of the Cities at the rally on the National Mall on Sunday afternoon, Nov. 9. The banners should have the name of your city and/or organization. They should be approximately 3x5 ft. in size. We are giving people wide latitude in designing their banners because we have learned that the best ideas come from local groups – not us! Please put 2-3 cloth loops on the back for the wooden poles (which we will provide). If you have any questions, contact Tim Nonn at timnonn@comcast.net or 707-799-1056.
